Book publishing for Founders
Your book will be the most useful marketing asset your company ever owns. It will survive every logo redesign, every website refresh, every round of employee turnover. If you are building something you want to last in print as well as on the cap table, Quartz Press is built for you.
Book a Strategy CallWhy you should write your founder book
- Customer acquisition. Your book turns cold prospects into warm leads before the first call. Buyers arrive already sold on your thinking.
- Fundraising. Investors read books differently from pitch decks. A published book signals clarity, conviction, and the long-term thinking that moves term sheets in your favour.
- Category creation. Naming your category or your framework and shipping it in hardback is one of the oldest and most effective moves in business strategy. It works because almost nobody bothers to do it.
- Talent attraction. The senior hires who read your book, decide they want to work on your mission, and apply before a role is even posted are worth more than every recruiter fee you will ever pay.
- Your founding story. You only get to tell it once. Most founders let it die in a podcast interview nobody remembers. Put it in a book and it keeps working for you for decades.
The kind of book that will work for you
Your book will come in one of three shapes. The first is a framework book built around the methodology you used to build your company, think The Lean Startup or Traction. The second is a founder memoir where the story of how you built the company is the point, think Shoe Dog or Delivering Happiness. The third is a category-defining manifesto that reshapes how your industry talks about itself, think Obviously Awesome or Crossing the Chasm.
Any of the three can work for you. Which one fits depends on the stage your company is at, the audience you want to reach, and the story you actually have to tell. Part of our job is helping you figure out which book is yours. Getting that decision right is worth more than any amount of drafting. We start with it in our publishing strategy phase, before a word of the book gets written.
How we will work with you
You are the busiest kind of author we work with, and the one for whom timing matters most. We will build your project around a fixed launch date, a fundraise, a product release, a keynote tour, and work backwards from there. Most founder books ship in nine to twelve months from kickoff.
We will handle the writing, the editorial, the cover and interior design, the publishing workflow, and the launch. You show up for six to twelve hours of recorded interviews and a weekly review. Nothing more.
